Effects of bleach
Bleach may be inexpensive and effective for many different uses, but like most things, it comes with negative effects. Perez (2014) states that “swallowing, smelling, or touching household bleach will likely not cause any significant problems”. However, if bleach is mixed with ammonia, toxic gas is released that can cause serious breathing problems. Also, swallowing large amounts or inhaling its fumes may cause poising.

Alternatives
As read above, using Bleach can be very dangerous. To prevent these negative effects, alternatives may be used.
Bleach is sodium hypochlorite, which is a compound composed of a sodium cation and hypochlorite anion and instead of the usage of sodium hypochlorite, chlorine, calcium hypochlorite, and hydrogen peroxide may be used. (Leverette, 2014)
According to Instead of using bleach-like products, these alternatives may be used:
· Baking Soda; adding ½ a cup of baking soda will result in whiter clothes. This is an even cheaper and has less of an impact on the environment.
· Distilled White Vinegar; presoak in 1 part white vinegar and 6 parts warm water. Wash as normal the next day. This is can prevent some health issues.
· Hydrogen Peroxide; A mild bleaching agent that has less impact on the environment. Add a cup of hydrogen peroxide to your full load.
